The 2018 Bite-Sized Bookkeeping Boot Camp

the 2018 Bite-Sized Bookkeeping Boot Camp

baby steps to get your books in gear | taught by Janet LeBlanc

Are you getting stressed about how far behind you are with your business bookkeeping for 2018?

Not looking forward to playing "catch up" for tax time?

Did you procrastinate dealing with your shop's finances until the last minute? Anxious about how to go about compiling an entire YEAR'S worth of transactions right before your tax return is due?

As a maker myself, I totally understand how we get caught up in the creative process of making, designing, listing, filling orders, and shipping. It's all too easy to let those slightly less fun admin tasks, like dealing with your finances, slide as the months go by.

Then all too soon, April comes around and you're suddenly scrambling...attempting to enter an entire year's worth of sales and expenses in a week to get your taxes done on time.

As a Certified Public Account and the founder of Paper + Spark, I've got the perfect solution for you if you're behind on your bookkeeping - the 2018 Bite-Sized Bookkeeping Bootcamp, especially for Etsy sellers. It's the next best thing to having an accountant there with you helping you do your books.

The Bite-Sized Bookkeeping Bootcamp is designed specifically to help you catch up on your 2018 finances in the least stressful way possible. I've broken down everything you need to do to update your books for the entire year in tiny, itty bitty, doable steps that are actually realistic and not overwhelming.

From a 2017 Bootcamper...

"It was extremely helpful, and having it divided into small tasks makes it more bearable. At the beginning just thinking of all I needed to do (no bookkeeping during the whole year!) made me feel desperate, but I kept telling myself ''small steps''as you say in the bootcamp, and although I did stressed over in some parts, I finished it! and it feels so good to have it done myself :)"

So you procrastinated a bit - it's okay! What's done is done. Good news - I can show you a better way to get caught up.

What if you could break up the bulk of updating a whole year's worth of financial transactions into small, doable tasks? What if you had an accountant friend who would guide you through a checklist made especially for you, so you knew exactly what you needed to do to get it done? What if you had a handy guide that told you exactly where to find the data you needed to update your finances quickly and effortlessly?

With this bootcamp, you'll do just a little bit of work during each lesson. You'll stay motivated rather than overwhelmed. Each lesson requires you to complete some task - like enter a certain bit of data in your spreadsheet, pull reports from Etsy, organize paperwork, etc. The end result will be a polished spreadsheet with exactly the total sales and expense info you need in order to know how your business performed financial in 2017, along with just about everything you need to complete your business' tax forms.

What does the 2017 Etsy Bite-Sized Bookkeeping Bootcamp offer?

If you procrastinated this year when it came to your bookkeeping and you're ready to play catch up - let's get started! In this course, I will guide you through the steps to get your books updated day by day. The course walks you through:

Quickly importing your sales, fees, and expenses directly from Etsy
Entering your sales & fees from other sources, like Amazon, Stripe, and PayPal
Compiling & organizing all your expenses in such a way to make entering them as painless as possible
Entering your expense transactions in manageable chunks of time
Dealing with inventory and supplies for cost of goods sold purposes
Dealing with inventory and supplies for cost of goods sold purposes
Creating final documentation along with a paper trail for tax purposes OR to hand over to your accountant
I explain every step and all the important accounting concepts as we go. My purpose is NOT just to tell you what to do to update your books, but to actually explain what you're doing - so that you have the confidence to deal with your money on your own!

Time is of the essence when you're working under the pressure of a tax deadline - so everything is this course is designed to be to the point, actionable, and purposeful. There's no fluff here - just solid, doable content.

What's included in the bootcamp?

The course comes with lots of useful tools, including:

A ready-to-go bookkeeping template for 2017 - my bestselling, 5-star Etsy Seller Spreadsheet (it's like a bookkeeping in a box for your shop!)
An inventory & supply worksheet for makers - calculate your ending year inventory for your Schedule C
Printable checklists so you can know what's ahead and keep track of your progress
Closed-caption video tutorials for nearly every step of the process - learn by seeing the steps in action, not just reading
"In plain English" written guides for all steps of the process
Discussion forums for every lesson - have a dedicated place to ask your questions and get them answered by me as you go
This is as close as you can get to having an accountant there with you, holding your hand, guiding you through the process of doing your bookkeeping work

What will I have when I'm done?

Well, first of all - pride and a sense of accomplishment on finally doing what you had been putting off all year! You'll also finish with an updated financial record for your business in 2017. By the end of the course (and before taxes are due!), you'll be able to simply hand over your completed documentation to your tax preparer with a sigh of relief and a smile on your face. Or, you'll have all the totals on hand to do your taxes yourself.

Who is this course for?

The 2017 Bite-Sized Bookkeeping Bootcamp is designed especially for Etsy sellers who are behind on their bookkeeping. This course will work for you if:

You sell on Etsy and other places too, like craft shows, Amazon, Shopify, or social media (we will cover how to enter sales from non-Etsy sources!)
You sell physical goods, digital goods, services, or anything in-between
You sell handmade items, vintage goods, or supplies
You've been selling for years and you're behind on your 2017 books
You opening up shop anytime in 2017
You haven't done ANY financial work for 2017
You've done some bookkeeping work for the year, but you fell behind
Your books are mostly up-to-date for 2017, but you need help making sure you've got everything covered & done correctly for tax time
Last year, I had several handmade sellers who didn't even sell on Etsy (they sold elsewhere online) enroll in the Bootcamp who still got great value from it! So if you're totally behind and you really need help, it may even be a good fit for non-Etsy sellers.

This course is not for you if you aren't ready to do the work. I'm going to take you from completely behind to completely done as quickly as possible, but I can't do the actual work for you. It's going to require WORK, dedication, and time on your part!

What last year's bootcampers said about the course...

"Absolutely loved this course. It helped me complete my 2017 taxes, in a manageable way, and helped me get set up for 2018. I’m three months in and totally on track to have a easy tax season next year!"

"Whenever anyone has questions in forums about taxes, I always say Paper and Spark is the best and makes taxes less scary."

"This course is amazing!!! First year living in the US and doing taxes for my Etsy shop. I had postponed the whole year learning what I needed to do to be ready for tax time and when I had almost no time left I found these resources! I finished it in about a week because I was entirely dedicated to it. The small steps made me feel like I was going somewhere and not overwhelmed by the amount of tasks that needed to be done. Definitely will be purchasing more of the spreadsheets - like inventory and COGS-. Looking forward to being disciplined about bookkeeping my expenses, sales, etc throughout the whole year. Thank you so much Janet!"

"I am not sure I would continue to run my little Etsy shop without Boot Camp. I was paralyzed with worry over tax preparation. Now I feel prepared to do the will be slow and tedious but I know I can do it."

Stop struggling and stop procrastinating! You don't have to do it alone.

Last year I surveyed my target audience to figure out what they needed the most help with when it comes to their business finances. I wasn't sure what to expect - would it be sales taxes? Choosing the right business entity? Filling out their Schedule C?

Surprisingly, the overwhelming response was that most people needed help with simply setting aside the time to consistently deal with their money. The information and tools they needed to do their accounting were readily available - they just weren't doing it. They kept putting off the work until it became such a huge task that they just never wanted to do it. Sound familiar?

That's why I developed the Bite-Sized Bookkeeping Bootcamp. You may (or may not!) already have the tools or knowledge you need to do your bookkeeping, but you just aren't setting aside the time to create a habit of consistently DOING it. This course forces you to buckle down, get motivated, and get your books in gear. Not only that, but we'll do it in the least stressful and most realistic way possible.
